COMPETITION # 2

The Centre has another competition.
It's a competition for both the adults and the children.
"Legends of the Floor" is an amateur competition
It was first brought on stream August 16th 2008 and was held at the Coleridge & Parry Secondary School in the parish of St. Peter in the north of the island.

The Dance Centre was started in February of 1999 by the husband and wife team of Livy & Betty Alleyne.
They are the primary instructors and are both qualified teachers of dance with the ISTD ( Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing )
Livy has over 25 years and betty some 19 years experience in dance.
Although the Centre caters to adults its main focus is on the chilodren in an effort to secure the future of the artform on the island.

As part of its outreach programme in 2003 the Centre produced "Ballroom Cabaret" at the Frank Collymore Hall featuring the Nadezhda Dancers out of Russia.
In 2004 the Centre embarked on an overseas tour to neighbouring Trinidad & Tobago with some 40 junior dancers who were the highlight of an Exhibition Ball hosted by a local group the Progressive International Dance School of Trinidad & tobago.

The Centre started a competition ( "Stars of the Future" ) for medallists dancers in June 2001.
This competition is the leading Ballroom and Latin dance competition for children held on the island.
The Latin component of this competition specifically supports the educational thrust of this country's revised curriculum where all students, primary and secondary are encouraged to embrace the culture and language of the French and Spanish speaking territories that make up our region.
It also serves to create the competitive spirit which will encourage them to to improve their standards as they strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives.

The centre for the past 15 years has been a part of the medal testing programme put in place by the Barbados Dance Teachers Association,
which is carried out by the (ISTD) U.K. based society.
The centre prepares candidates from beginner to gold level and to date has an unblemished results record.
In the picture to the left can be seen some of the centre's adult medallist with examiner Margaret Connon - October 2008.
